What is Spun Yarn
Spun yarn, sometimes called staple yarn is the yarn of fibers that have short discrete
lengths. It is produced by twisting fibers or filaments together by overlapping the fiber upon
one another. This twist can be an S twist or a Z twist. When the threads appear to go up the
left, we consider it an S-twist, and when the threads appear to go up the right, we consider it
a Z-twist. The two types of spun yarn are:
1) Ring Spun Yarn.
2) Rotor Yarn.
The yarn formed by the ring spinning technique is called ring spun yarn and The yarn formed
by the rotor spinning system is called rotor yarn.
Spun yarns can contain either a single type of fiber or various types of fibers twisted
together. We call this process of twisting the fibers together and creating spun fibers
spinning.
Moreover, all-natural fibers except silk are spun fibers. This type of yarn is preferred for
apparel. When compared to filament yarn, spun yarn is hairy and softer. They also tend to
pill more than filament yarns (pills are small accumulations of fiber that form on the surface
of the fabric).

What is Filament Yarn
Filament yarn is the twisting of fibers that consists of very long, continuous filaments
grouped together. Filament yarns have two types:
1) mono-filament yarn
2) multi-filament yarn.
Mono-filament yarn consists of a single strand, while multi-filament yarn consists of two or
more strands twisted together.
The filament yarn can be natural, synthetic, or non-synthetic. This type of Filament yarn has
excellent uniformity as well as excellent strength. They are smooth and lustrous. This type of
yarn tends to have fewer pills.

Filament yarns are used in fabrics for apparel, hosiery, carpets, sportswear, etc. As
